Dwarven Warband

Finally finished -- my dwarven warband.  Three warriors and two crossbowmen, all from Reaper, to go along with the leader painted previously. It's taken me a while to get them done, but at last I get to toss them up on the blog.

Is it just me or do these guys look a little like ZZ Top?

  1. Those are some great looking figures. They will defintly deal some damage on the battle field

  3. Definitely ZZ Top lookalikes but the short years, good work.

  4. I think the better question is, "could ZZ Top be composed of fantasy dwarves?"

  6. Whisk: I always enjoy visiting your blog! No, alas, Mrs. Bard doesn't have a blog at the moment. But who knows what the future may hold?

  7. If she gets one please let me know and I'll do a connecting post back to hers on one of my blogposts.

Just had Nutella on toast - a wee little snacky snack before bed.

Hope you have a groovy day and eats lots of yummy things.

  8. Z Z Top, love it! I just painted some dwarves from Red Box, was going to add Reaper ones, ordered a figure and the comparison doesn't work. The Reaper one is twice the size. Question of your painting style: do you prime your figs black first, then layer the colors?

  9. Hi Gael Redire: Thanks for coming by! Yes, I've noticed that Reaper minis tend to be quite large for "28s" (my humans for example measure about 31-33 mm I think). For painting, I just prime black and then block paint the colors. Nothing fancy, no shading, washing, dipping or anything else. I just leave thin lines of black primer showing through between colors and "in the cracks" (though I do sometimes dry-brush certain finer details like chain mail, fletchings, etc.). But that's it really.

  10. The detail on these figures is great, I just don't care for Reaper's take on dwarven proportions. They are a bit "lanky" for my perception of the stout dwarven race.
