Dark Lord Funk
Listening to my geek tunes as I prep my White Box: FMAG game for Con on the Cob, and came across a new tune (new to me) to share. Enjoy!

New Monster
Well, new to us anyway, as the little monster recently adopted my wife and me.
Felis Catus (House Cat)
Hit Dice: 1-1
Armor Class: 4 [15]
Attacks: 2 claws (1d2), 1 bite (1d4)
Saving Throw: 17
Special: Ambush, Gaze Attack
Move: 24
Alignment: Chaotic Adorable
Felis Catus is noticeably smaller than great predators such as the lion or the tiger. However, his tremendous speed and agility make him difficult to handle. Though low in hit dice, he is excellent at hiding under beds and couches and from such ambush positions he automatically surprises his quarry and obtains a +4 bonus to hit. A successful ambush attack does double damage against any normal target and quadruple damage against a human wearing socks. More dangerous than his ambush, however, is Felis Catus' gaze attack which acts as a charm person spell. Hapless humans suffer -4 to their saving throws against the gaze. Anyone failing the save must take the cat in, provide him with food and shelter, and regularly scratch him under the chin.

Quote about Warriors and Lances
"If an ordinary warrior's lance is ten feet long, how long must Ajax's lance be?"
Diderot is one of my favorite writers. Even when making a dry philosophical point about the dangers of analogical reasoning, he manages to do it with style.

Learning Curve
I rewatched the movie THACO over the weekend. Makes me laugh every time.
Ben, Duck and Jon discuss the RPG group that Ben's running for the kids at school.
BEN: We had the first meeting of the RPG Group.
DUCK: Uh, what adventure did you play?
BEN: Borderlands.
DUCK: Niiiice.
JON: Good solid grounding in the classics, huh?
BEN: Yeah, well they, uh, spent an hour and a half rolling up characters and then they split up within the first ten minutes.
JON: [chuckling] No-ho wa-hay-hay...
BEN: Yeah, the thief announced he was sneaking off to look for treasures.
JON: Ha! Ha! Ha! [ironically] Because they're just going to be out in the open like that. Oh, that is so cute!
BEN: Ah, to be level one again...
DUCK: Well, I hope you taught them a lesson and slayed them to the last man with wandering monsters!
BEN: No, I bloodied 'em a little bit and let them make it back to town.
DUCK: I thought you said you were trying to teach them something!
BEN: I am.
DUCK: Well, how do you expect them to learn anything if you don't execute them every time they make a mistake?

Taking Up the Rejects' Dice Challenge
If you read any of the blogs written by members of Postie's Rejects, you'll know that Big Lee (Big Lee's Miniature Adventures) had an abysmal run of luck with the dice in a recent game they played. Big Lee wrote about a dice rolling test he ran on himself, and Ray (Don't Throw a 1) has turned this into "Poor Lee's Dice Challenge." The idea is to throw 10 x d20, 10 x d10, and 10 x d6, and in each case average the 10 dice thrown to see if you can throw an average low enough to dethrone Big Lee as the King of Crappy Dice.
I've had a couple of runs of bad luck in our Monday night games (e.g. throwing molotov-cocktail-style-flasks of oil multiple times at a gelatinous cube filling the height and width of the corridor not ten feet away from me and being unable to hit it), so I decided to give it a go.
My averages were:
d20 = 9.4
d10 = 5.2
d6 = 4.1
A tad below average on the d20 and d10, but not enough to make me royalty. And my d6 came out above average.
I think this is one case, where it is good not to be the king.

The Image of a Thief, Revisited
A big thanks to aamedor at the Game Masters Corner for pointing out a cool utility that you can find at the Heromachine website for drawing images of characters.
I gave it a whirl to make a new image of my current Labyrinth Lord Character, Tristan Greyweather, Thief:
Happy with this one, I went ahead and made an image of Tristan's girlfriend, Brie Fairhaven. She lives in another state. No really, he does have a girlfriend, she just lives in Ohio. Seriously, why won't anyone believe Tristan on this?
P.S. - The names I put in myself using a photo editor.

A Paragon of Purity
With all the violence here, who would have guessed this blog would get such a family-friendly rating?
Apparently the only objectionable elements to my blog are two appearances of the word "death."
Whoops! Make that three now.
