Ruined!

My new motto seems to be: If you're not painting, buy stuff!  I'm not sure how viable that philosophy can be financially in the long term ("not very?").

I recently picked up a few aquarium pieces at Wal-Mart, and then bought a few more through Amazon, which just arrived in the mail today. These should all work fairly nicely as ruins on my fantasy battlefields.

 Scale-wise, I think they're perfect for my 28mm minis.

I probably need new terrain like I need a hole in my head...

I'm not sure how much I really like some of the brighter colors on these, like the lemon yellow pharaoh here. I may end up repainting some of the louder bits in more subdued tones.

These pieces were not terribly expensive as far as prepainted scenery goes. All were less than $20, some as low as $10. But I still may have to put a clamp on the purchases soon.

  1. Wow cool stuff. You need so Greek god standing in the first one, demanding worship.

    1. Hmmm...sounds like that could be a future painting project for me!

  2. Excellent finds. I find myself doing the same thing when Im not painting. You could always give the brighter bits a dark wash.

    1. Thanks Dan. I think the dark wash is a good idea. I might try that first before I make any attempts at a full-fledged repaint (which would be a lot more work).

  4. That's funny you mentioned getting some of these at Wal-Mart. I've had my eye on some of the exact same pieces. The idea, for me, to use aquarium pieces like this came to me about 10 years ago when I was in a pet store getting ferret food with my buddy and some of them popped right off the shelf at me. Good to see others have had the same idea.

    1. Hi Fumblefail. Though more recent, my epiphany came about the same way. Just walking through Wal-mart on other business I spotted them and thought "hey..."

  5. Very nice. I'll need to keep an eye out for that sort of thing myself. Most of the Aquarium pieces I've found have been okay for 15mm scale, but I'm hoping to find 28mm material as well.
