Chicago Expedition Loot

Just got back from a week in Chicago. I love that town. Apart from dining with my wife in some really nice vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants (Chicago Diner, Karyn's, I Dream of Falafel), I managed to haul in some game-related stuff. Here's a list of loot...

Black FUDGE dice. I like black dice. Don't know why. Maybe I'm chaotic evil at heart.

Black d6's with numbers, rather than pips. I've played with pips for years on my d6's. Now I'm going with numbers 'cause I'm getting too old and too lazy to count dots.

The wife looked at me: What more dice?

Paizo Game Mastery Chase Cards. The Monday Night Ubergoobers already use these. I picked up a set of my own.

All this stuff I found at Chicagoland Games. Every time I visit a big city I go to one of their FLGS's. I've been to Chicagoland Games twice now. Both times I found the people there really nice. Great folks, one of the best game stores I've visited. In a nutshell, they seem to actually appreciate their customers' business, unlike some other stores I could mention where my business seemed like an imposition: "What? I need to stop playing Magic: The Gathering to ring up your purchase? Arrrgggghhh....". These guys haven't been like that with me. If you're ever in Chicago, I recommend looking them up.

Also picked up some reading material. There was a very decent used book store near our hotel. I grabbed a few good deals on some great books, namely:

And finally we went to a B&N where I bought:

I'm probably set for leisure reading for a while.

  1. I'm coming round to the idea of numbers rather than pips!

    1. Yeah, depending on how much I've had to drink, the number of pips wavers.

    1. I was actually very surprised how many vegan and vegan-friendly places there were, so it was an unexpected pleasure.

  3. What did you have that was the best? Did you have anything that you now want to make at home?

    1. Two dishes from the Chicago Diner:

The "Titanic BLT Burger" (seitan patty, seitan bacon, French fried onions, lettuce, tomato and "Chipotle Fire" sauce) – tasted better than any real bacon burger I ever had even before becoming vegan.

Their "Radical Reuben" was awesome too – seitan "corned beef" with sauerkraut, onions, and peppers on marbled rye – again better than any real reuben I'd had before becoming vegan.

  4. Very cool. Though, I've never had a reuben before. I'm still new to many meat dishes. Very cool that they were better than the ones before you became a VegHead.
